Today I had my surgery performed by Dr. Baxt in New Jersey. I must say that he has the nicest staff. My surgery lasted about an hour and a half and I stayed in recovery for that period of time as well. 1600 cc's taken from each breast. As I write this post at 9:00 pm I am in virtually no pain, just some soreness as I adjust positions. I've taken two pills for pain, though I'm not in pain, just as a preventative measure. I am 32 years old, 5' 8" and weigh 200 lbs. I've had large breasts since puberty hit in 7th grade. For the longest time I thought I was a 40 DDD. One day while watching Oprah I was inspired to go to Nordstrom and find my correct size. Suprisingly I was told I was a 38 G/H. That explained the constant readjusting of the bra and the "4 boob" look. As far as my medical history, I've never really had any excrutiating back or neck problems. I'm in pretty good shape. I realized however, that I slouch over when I sit to relieve the strain on my back, neck and shoulders. I also have a constant tenderness in my lower back. My large chest size also prevented me from doing the exercises I wanted to do. Jumping jacks, running, jump rope were out of the question despite wearing a regular bra under two sports bra. Long periods of exercise would cause strain on my neck, shoulders and back. Also, in my opinion, the top part of my body looked disproportionate to my bottom half. Tired of shirts gapping open. This is why I decided to have THIS surgery. Never would have undergone the traditional method. So far I'm pleased with my decision. I'm also pleased that my insurance company The Empire Plan/UnitedHealthcare(New York) indicated they will cover the full cost of the procedure based on the predetermination package sent by Rachel. As explained before I did not have a medical history of back pain. I just visited by Primary Care Doctor and GYN and told them why I wanted to have the surgery and had them write letters. I explained to them my problem with the constant tenderness in my back and slouching over. The primary care recommended the surgery and physical therapy. We also submitted the prescription for physical therapy. Plus from the pictures submitted, no one can deny that a G/H cup is in any form or shape COMFORTABLE. Thanks to Rachel for all her help in getting out the predetermination packet. Now its a wait and see if they will in fact cover. The insurance company determined that the reasonable and customary fee for the procedure to be $7500. Keeping my fingers crossed. Thanks Dr. Baxt for changing my life!!

Hi, I am new to the board, I just joined today. I am hoping since your surgery was almost a year ago that you still log on to this site. I had called Dr. Baxt office sometime last month and I was told that he doesnt accept Health Insurance to cover the SBR surgery, now reading your post I was alittle surprised that you mentioned that the office had tried to help you get Insurance approval. Maybe, I am just that unlucky and called too late, and the doctor has now changed his policy in regards to accepting Health Insurance or maybe I was given the wrong information? Please I look forward to your response or anyone that can answer my question.

Star1052,
Sorry for the confusion. Dr. Baxt did not accept my insurance. I had to pay for the entire surgery up front and then seek reimbursement from my insurance company. They did, however, submit a pre-determination of benefits package on my behlaf, as well as pictures. In the end, insurance did not cover the whole thing, because they consider scarless reduction "investigational", but they did reimburse me $4,000.

Thank you for responding. I actually called my insurance company and they told me I would be covered for the complete surgery if I use a participating provider, the problem with that is I really doubt any of the participating providers are doing the SBR. Also, I was informed that I would need to get the surgery codes for the SBR, so I called cosmedical and requested the code but then when I called the insurance company back with the code the next representative asked if I had more than one code because she said it should be all the codes associated with what would be performed at the time of surgery. I still have not went in for an initial consultation, because I want to be sure if I am going to be paying out of my pocket or getting insurance to cover it. I wanted to find out what size are you now, since I read that you had 1600cc removed from both breast?

I'm new too - I am a 34G right now - out of proportion with my body - I think it's about time I did something about this - I am 46 now - breastfed both my kids (had them late) and wasn't too sure about the conventional surgery ... any surgery carries too many risks. And I would like to know too what size you are too, if you don't mind. I need to gauge if this is the right procedure for me - I need reduction AND a lift....

I had SBR done 11/07. I had my post-op mammography done 8/08 - all fine. My Gynocologist and Mammography technician stated I had excellent surgery results from Dr. Baxt. They both had never heard of SBR and were very impressed with my results and no scars. Both remarked the traditional breast reduction takes on so many negative risks and leaves terrible scars. I am now 56 yrs. old. Started at 38DDD full cup and now 38C regular cup. 1000cc and 900cc removed. I breast fed 2 children - one year each. You need to speak to Dr. Baxt for detailed information. I thank Dr. Baxt for making such a positive change in my life! Dr. Baxt and his staff are wonderful!
